The DUMBEST tribe ever

This past week on Survivor showed the dumbest move EVER in it's entire 24 season run! The men win immunity but unanimously vote to go to tribal council anyway, so they can make their tribe weaker!?!? This is insane. NO ONE is thinking on that tribe.

I hope they all get annihilated for this move...and most likely that's what is going to happen from here on out.

Best Batman Movie (wrap up)

I didn't include this in my conversations from last week but after repeated questions as to which one I liked best I'll go ahead and answer that today.

Tim Burton's, by far. The man gave just the right mixture of comic book fantasy enough to engross us into believing the story line. Make fun of sill scene's such as the Joker spitting out false teeth after a Batman punch, or penguins walking around with missles from their backs but THAT'S Batman. I thought it looked great and wouldn't mind the same treatment to the movie franchise in future installments.

Nolan did fine. I love his movies but was so tired of hearing everyone proclaim them to be the best ones ever. (cause they aren't) My point I was trying to make a few weeks ago was that by looking at the characters of each role, Nolan failed to capture that comic book feel that Batman's origins are deeply rooted in. Again, great movies, just not "Batman" enough for me.

Ole Joe was obviously the worst. We all gave him a pass on Batman Forever but instead of taking it he tore right into the series which literally halted production of other super hero movies until the Xmen hit the big screen.

The time has come to give my endorsement for Mayor of Monroe and I select Clint Thomas!

Who is he? Well, this pictures 4 years old but the man hasn't changed a bit in his looks or political platform in over 12 years!

He runs the local comic shop here in town (which your's truly is a patron of) he says he's running for the "common man" to end corruption, establish bike trails throughout the city, bring more events to our Civic Center, improve our parks and make Monroe a better place.

He has no experience when it comes to local government but that kinda works in his favor doesn't it? He gets 600 votes for Mayor every time he run and by gosh I want to make that number 800!!

All seriousness, everyone who runs for Mayor here is a crook except Clint. He wouldn't know how to run a city but I have a feeling we'd be a lot better off with this guy than the others.

I have his sign in my yard. Now if I can just stick a Ron Paul sign next to it I'll have those 800 votes like that!!

Survivor: One World

So tonight Survivor cranks out another season and I'm pumped to see what will happen.

They did away with Redemption Island and I bet you I know why. Last season one of the girls was saying in her interview that it didn't matter whether or not she got voted out at tribal or not because because she would have a chance to get back in the game. My bet is that she wasn't the only one who shared that sentiment.

Then you had people like Ozzie who knew they couldn't make it far in the game and stayed alive in Redemption Island. He actually was relieved to go!

Don't get me wrong I loved Redemption, but it's over now and Survivor must evolve again. This time their doing things a little different in One World.

2 tribes, living as one. One tribe of Women and One tribe of Men.

Love it.

Smart concept with a good twist on dividing them up by gender. I think this'll only work once with the show but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

My prediction is a girl will win though because when they divided the tribes by gender last time the guys imploded while the women laughed. I'll be expecting the same sort of thing this time around. Remember, the challenges won't be physical so as to even the playing field.

Can't wait to see what happens tonight!

Best Lex Luthor

Now it's time to review Superman's big baddy Lex Luthor. This is where the competition gets good!

4) John Shea

Did anyone even remember there was a Lex Luthor in the Lois and Clark TV series?!?

Me neither. Which is why this guy gets last place.

3) Kevin Spacey

He did a great job as Lex! Sadly it was in Superman Returns, which is why he's ranked 3rd.

2) Gene Hackman

Oh yeah! Now we're getting to the heavy hitters! Mean Gene played Luthor like no one ever has! He was excellent at it and a wonderful compliment to an already strong performance by Reeves. Why do you think he was in every Superman movie? Why do you think most folks say Superman 3 was the worst movie in the series? Because Gene wasn't in it, that's why!

1) Michael Rosenbaum

Yep, no question about it. Rosenbaum played Lex the best! He was the only reason to watch Smallville for years and when he wised up and realized the show was going from bad to awful he jumped ship early in the series.

The way he played Luthor was the whole reason I started watching the show. In fact, I wished they'd made him the star and Clark as the co-star. The series would have been a whole lot more interesting then.

Time to review Supes main squeeze Lois Lane. Here we go!

5) Kate Bosworth

Only because she was in Superman Returns. I'd go back and watch the movie to see where she would rank if I didn't know watching Superman Returns for the 2nd time would be just as painful as having as someone pulling out your eyes with a pair of rusty pliers.

4) Erica Durance

I know Lois is supposed to be that annoyingly nosy reporter who's always getting into trouble. But Durance's version makes you wonder why Superman doesn't smack her to the moon. (literally)

3) Noel Neill

Playing side by side George Reeves, Neill played the role of Lois relativity safe. Not doing much to her performance so you could go either way on her. But I say she at least beats the first 2 on my list!

2) Teri Hatcher

Honestly I don't remember a single thing about her performance, I just remembered that back in the day Teri Hatcher was HOT! That's the only reason she gets to be #2 on my list.

1) Margot Kidder

Once again in the realm of losers Margot has no competition in her role as Lois Lane. She has just the right balance of being strong willed yet subtle around Clark. Sure Reeve helped with his performance but Kidder actually does an acceptable job in her role as Ms Lane. Again I think there's someone out there who could beat her, but it may be a while before any of us see it.

Best Superman

Now it's time to discuss one of my least favorite but very popular super hero's to date: Superman. And just like I did with Batman I'm going to rank them by how they played the role of Clark Kent. Who really gives you insight into how Superman thinks the "average" human should be.

So who played Clark Kent the best? Let's find out!

5) Brandon Routh/ Superman Returns.... (to take your cash and leave you a stinker)

Routh doesn't even try in his role as Clark Kent to look convincing. He obviously thought that because Nolan was directing the film, no one would realize how bad his performance was....he was wrong.

4) Dean Cain

Cain plays the smug, confident Clark Kent that is seen NO WHERE in the comics. Seriously, if I was friends with this Clark, I'd probably end up punching him right in the face! (um, if he didn't have super strength that would break my hand of course)

3)Tom Welling

Anyone up for a whiny, emotional, love-sick Clark Kent with the mentality of a teenage girl? Then Smallwood is your show!

2) George Reeves

His Clark Kent is a step above the rest but that's not saying much. Reeves made his Kent seem way to smart and level headed. Of course back then I guess it didn't matter. Seeing as how the only disguise Superman could think of was wearing glasses when he wasn't around flying in tights! But still he sits comfortably at 2nd well behind our #1

1) Christopher Reeve

I dare someone to prove me wrong. NO ONE will be able to top his masterful performance of Clark Kent! Even in Superman 4 (with is an awful movie) Christopher's scenes as Kent make it worth watching. In fact, pick up the 4 in 1 dvd for $10 some time and see for yourself. (but be sure to fast forward thru everything else) There will never be somebody as good as Reeve and if so, they must have done an flawless job copying his performance.

Best Hulk

We're going to deviate from DC for today and talk about who played the best Bruce Banner of them all.

#3 Eric Bana

Let's face it folks, there was NOTHING good about this movie. Bana was just a small factor in a slew of reasons why all copies of this movie should be burned. His acting was flat and the story didn't help him either. Two thumbs down.

#2 Bill Bixby

I'm curious to see if I'm going to get any arguments over this one. I LOVE me some Bill Bixby. There's no doubt in my mind that they man did a splendid job portraying Bruce Banner unlike any other. C'mon, who can say they don't tear up every time they hear his theme song and seem him wandering down a long and lonely road at the end of each episode?

Gosh... I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it! Better move on...

#1 Edward Norton

There's only one man who can knock Mr Bixby off his throne and that's Norton. What a fantastic job he did (and what a risk as well) playing Bruce Banner not long after the previous movie was deemed a dud in Hollywood. Not only did he revive the interest in the Hulk, but he also brought the big green into the Avengers movie this summer. (well, Edward won't be in it but it will feature the Hulk)

Will this guy in the Avengers movie be any good? I'd be surprised if he makes it past Bill in this line up.

Ok, back to DC tomorrow. Still a few more people I'd like to talk about.

Best Batmobile

The Batmobile is the trademark car of Batman's. Let's see who in Hollywood got it right:

4) Batman/Batman Returns

I've never liked this vehicle. Even after seeing the movie for the first time I remember telling folks that the Batmobile looked stupid. It STILL looks stupid to me now!

3) Batman Forever/Batman and Robin

This one's not much better. I remember thinking when the movie came out "Oh well, at least they got rid of the first one!"

2) Batman Begins/The Dark Knight

This one's nice but doesn't resemble any "bat" features about it. Seriously, Iron Man could be riding in this thing and we wouldn't be able to tell. I know Nolan was going for a more "realistic" look but dude! You have a man dressed up as a bat! May as well go for it all the way here, know what I'm saying??

1) Batman TV series

Oh yeah baby! I would trade my car in for this one in a heartbeat!! This car would still be considered cool to this day! I can see it now:

Me: Honey, do you need me to pick you up anything from the store? Run an errand for you? Take you somewhere?

Megan: Sure, but can we take my car.

Me: Um, nevermind.

Ok, so honestly I needed one more villain to round out the week and he was the only one left. All 4 were kinda lame but I'll do my best to rank them here:

4) Arnold Schwarzenegger

Why is he the worst? I'll tell you to watch Batman and Robin and see for yourself but that would be a waste of your time. So just look at this promo picture for the movie. Yep! Moving on!

3) George Sanders

For the record I'm not making this picture up. This is actually a still from the 1966 series. His performance was like his suit...not good.

2) Otto Preminger

Only reject from the old TV series. The only reason he beats out Sanders for the role is because he looks more the part. That's it.

1) Eli Wallach

A lot of folks do rank Wallach's performance as Mr Freeze to be the best. I say with competition like this, that's not saying much.

Wallach did ok I guess, but I feel that no actor has yet make Mr Freeze seem like the desirable Batman villain he should be. Only time will tell if they ever correct that.

Best Catwoman

5) Halle Berry

Yep....ok moving on!

4) Eartha Kitt

When Season 3 of the Batman series was in doubt, Julie Newmar signed on to do several movie roles. When she later found out season 3 was a go after all, she sadly had to decline her role as Catwoman due to scheduling conflicts and that's where Eartha Kitt comes in.

Kitt plays this character like she has no idea what Batman is much less what her character should be like. There's campy and then there's awful and that's where Kitt'e performance hits, just awful.

But she still beat Berry.

3) Lee Meriwhether

When they decided to make a Batman movie, Julie Newmar was once again unavailable to reprise her role and Lee Meriwhether stood in.

She actually does a pretty good job here. I kinda wish we'd had seen her in Season 3 of the show instead of Kitt. I wonder then who would've been better between her and Newmar? Lee did an excellent job as Catwoman in her short time she had playing the role but she can't hold a candle to the next 2 on the list.

2) Michelle Pheiffer

One of the best Catwoman's there'll ever be. Burton knew what he was doing when he cast her for the role. Pheiffer really gave Catwoman that sass about her character we all love and as for looks? Well, short or Princess Leia's metal bikini ask any nerd what their favorite type of costume is for a woman. (hint: NOT Halle Berry's!!)

1) Julie Newmar

I know. I've really got a thing for that 1966 series don't I? But it's the truth! Julie Newmar IS Catwoman. She barely beats Pheiffer out in my opinion solely because she embodied everything that Catwoman is. Pheiffer played Catwoman a little crazy and you were always thinking in the bacl of your mind while watching the movie "Batman would never go for that" But with Newmar you can actually she the "poor deluded soul" Batman pities every time he takes her in. Excellently done!

I have one more villain to speak about tomorrow!

Best Penguin

He was never my favorite villain but recently what they've been having him do in the comics has made me appreciate this character a little but more. There were only 2 folks who ever played him, so let's rank them shall we?

2) Danny Devito

Like Heath Ledger, DeVito did a good job playing the Penguin... just one we've never seen before. The Penguin is a "clean cut" crook, who takes pleasure in dressing up and pretending to be something he's not. DeVito's Penguin is a disgusting slob who hasn't the nearest hint of class. Still, not bad. I remember being glad to hear the Penguin would be in Batman Return's because I didn't think he was liked well enough in the comics... this I'm afraid didn't change anyone's mind.

1) Burgess Meredith

Before he was coaching Rocky how to fight, Burgess donned the clever disguise of the Penguin for the 1966 TV Show. He was so well liked in fact, that the Penguin appears in more episodes of the series than any other lead villain.

As for his performance? Wonderful. I'm telling you, if you haven't seen this old TV show you're missing a lot!

Best Riddler

The Riddler is my favorite Batman villain. Always has been. So today we'll look at who portrayed him the best...

2) Jim Carrey

Carrey did a wonderful job in Batman Forever. In fact, he and Val Kilmore are the only reasons why anyone should watch the film! It's funny when you look at his performance, because it closely mimics the master of the role...

1) Frank Gorshin

When I think of the Riddler, this is who I see. Gorshin was brilliant in his role. Which actually helped catapult the Riddler's character as being one of Batman's biggest nemesis. Before the TV show he was one of Batman's small time villains in the comics. Frank also invented the Riddler's infamous "Question Mark Suit" look, because he didn't want to be running around in the tights the whole time.

Amazing.

Best Joker

Continuing our look at best actors and actresses to portray characters from Batman, let's look at some of the villains this week. We'll start with the most popular villain of them all... the Joker.

4) Cesar Romero

It's sad that I have to rank Cesar last. He really did a good job. And was in his 40's I believe when he played the Joker on the TV series. Adam West consistently praises his performance as the Joker and I have to agree, his energy is there. But sadly he pales in comparison to the next 3 I'm about to talk about.

3) Heath Ledger

I'm going to hear it about this. But trust me, this is where Heath belongs in the ranking. Did he do a good job in the Dark Knight? No. He did a fantastic job! The reason he's #3 is because he didn't play the Joker's character, he made one up on his own. The Dark Knight's Joker was more grim than how he's usually portrayed in... well in like every other thing out there! I thought Heath did a wonderful job and I'm not discrediting him, his portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime was unique and I'll give him credit for that.

2) Jack Nicholson

BARELY squeaking out a win over Heath Ledger is ole Jack. He played Joker in just the right way, with a sense of humor with a scary and demented underside. I watched these movies again last year and I almost would say this was one of Nicholson's BEST performances. (and he's had a lot!) But it wasn't enough to claim the #1 spot.

1) Mark Hamill

I didn't want to put voice actors in this category. But after many discussions with a friend of mine I've had to concede the point that Mark Hamill IS the Joker. Think about it folks, when you hear the Joker who's voice pops in your head? Yep, me too. Mark Hamill will always be known for 2 things, being Luke Skywalker and the Joker.

Don't think I'm biased because of his connection to Star Wars. I actually had to be convinced for several hours before realizing my buddy was right. Mark Hamill did the best Joker. (although I still lean back on Nicholson taking the title)

Best Commissioner Gordon

The Commish has always been a mainstay character to the Batman series. The comic books write his character best. But over the years the actor's who've portrayed him have been able to add their spin on what Gordon's character is like. Let's rank'em!

#3 Pat Hingle

Let's face it, Tim Burton got it wrong with how he put Gordon into the script. It reminded me of the Mario Brothers movie and how we all sat went "WHO are these people and WHERE are the real Mario Brothers?"

Gordon didn't look or seem like anything other than a warm body who wandered onto the set right before they started shooting. Terrible performance.

#2 Neil Hamilton

According to Adam West he was terrible to work with. But we're not going by popularity on the set, so he gets into our list at #2 easily. Overall Hamilton's "over the top" acting is to be expected in his performance of Commissioner Gordon on the TV show, but what you can't miss is his particular portrayal of Gordon which didn't make him look like a complete idiot at times. (Note I said complete)

#1 Gary Oldman

Holy Crow. Whenever I see Oldman as Gordon I think "Wow, it couldn't have been anyone else." One thing the newer movies have done well is using Gordon as a intricate part of the story. Oldman's portrayal is spot on and doesn't require any further tweaking. He's got it. That's what Gordon should be like. No question.

Best Alfred

You can't have a Batman movie without a good Alfred. That said, there were 3 people to play the faithful butler of Wayne Manor. But what does it take to be a good Alfred. Devotion. Devotion not only to Master Wayne but the duel life Alfred must live as well. Being a regular butler and taking care of Bruce Wayne and his secrets is no easy matter.

Let's see who portrayed this the best:

#3 Michael Cain

I love Michael Cain, but he goes underused in Nolon's movies. There's really nothing special about him unlike the other 2 candidates on the list. This isn't Cain's problem it's the story line that doesn't deal as well with the "modern day" Batman motif.

#2 Alan Napier

He lived up to 90 something before he died but he was never known for anything other than the lovable butler that brought the Alfred character back to life in the comic books. No seriously, Alfred was dead in the comic book when this TV show came out. It was the show that brought Wayne's butler back into the spot light and it's Nappier's clever portrayal that did it. This fact alone gives him a rightful place at #2.

Amazing job.

#1 Michael Gough

I bet if I didn't have a picture here but if I only had this picture and no title about what I was talking about, you'd say "Hey, what's with the picture of Alfred on his post?"

Making his way thru all 4 Batman films in the 90's Micheal Gough set the bar on how Alfred should be. I don't think we'll ever since such a marvelous performance from another actor ever again. I want to see someone argue this one on me. You can't deny that when you think of Alfred Gough's face is what pops up first!

Best Batgirl

Once again there's only 2 choices to go by so once again I'll make this quick.

Alicia Silverstone (Bad)

What's there to say about her? She was totally forced into the script and gave no weight to the overall story line she was in. So did a terrible job but I think all the direction she ever got was that of a dogs. "Stay Alicia, stay. Good Alicia. Now bark!"

It's said no one gave any more thought to it than that.

Yvonne Craig (Good)

Unlike her counterpart, Yvonne played the role of Barbara Gordon excellently. Being a librarian established her character as being knowledgeable on many subjects and made her character seem more realistic in the overall stories.

As with Ward I'd concede someone could still do better but as of yet no one's even gotten close, which leaves Ms Craig as the reigning champion of the role.

Best Robin

Whoa boy is this going to be short. There's only 2 boy wonders to speak about. I don't even think it's necessary to rank them so here goes:

Chris O'Donnell (Bad)

This wasn't Robin. This was some rebellious punk who didn't think much of Batman (at first) and wasn't really that smart to begin with. Everything Robin is, Joe Shumaucher took away and instead left of with some generic kid of the 90's who didn't "go by the rules" or care what other people thought. Pathetic portrayal.

Burt Ward (Good)

Like it or not the creator's of the show really took a lot of time and thought into what the boy wonder should be about. He was smart enough to figure things out without Batman's help at times and was devoutly faithful to the Bat without question.

Now can someone do a better job than Ward? Sure. I just haven't seen one do it yet.

Best Batman

A few months ago I read an article on who the best actor to portray Batman was. They made the obvious choice of Christian Bale since he's the most recent one. But as I look at it, I'm not sure I agreed, which led me to making these next few series of post who I think did the best job portraying different super hero characters.

I start with Batman because he's my favorite super hero. My reasoning in ranking the actors was clear. It's not how you portray Batman, but rather how you personify his alter ego Bruce Wayne that defines whether you have the character down or not.

Think about it, Batman is a person with... no emotion right? So anyone can play him when it comes to putting on a cape, but what about Bruce? The "fake" disguise Batman pretends to be? Let's look at that, then the total package.

#5 George Clooney

The first person to play Bruce Wayne as a complete jackass. Seriously, this is the guy who comes to your party and everyone rolls their eyes at him and goes "Ah man, not THIS guy again!"

Clooney has been badgered constantly over how he played Batman but his performance as Bruce Wayne was just as awful.

#4 Christian Bale

Love him as Batman as much as you want but when it comes to playing Wayne, he's terrible. Honestly his Bruce Wayne is the closest resemblance to Batman and any movie. Grimm and moody with a "Don't mess with me" attitude. Bruce Wayne is supposed to be a playboy millionaire, not a guy that would scare half the people fighting in a UFC ring. I love Bale, but his Bruce Wayne just stinks.

#3 Michael Keaton

It's rough rating Keaton this far down, I did a lot of thinking on this but ultimately decided this is where he should be. Keaton played a quirky, socially detached Wayne and it came across marvelously in the films. He had a slight edge of intelligence which let you know he wasn't incompetent. I think Keaton's portrayal of Bruce Wayne is what made the movies so good to begin with.

#2 Val Kilmore

If I had not watched Batman Forever again last year I probably would've had Val behind Keaton, but seeing this film again really opened my eyes to how perfectly balanced Kilmore played Wayne. Playboy millionaire and businessman all rolled into one. Val had complete understanding of what Wayne should be like and executed the performance perfectly.

#1 Adam West

I'm going to hang for this one I just know it. But sorry folks, Adam West did the best!

Sure he's "Bright Knight" Batman closely resembled his Bruce Wayne but we're looking at just Bruce here remember? And by that analysis West pulled it off gloriously! In every episode of the old show what was Bruce Wayne up to? Attending social functions, charity organizations, going bird watching, star gazing, or fishing on his yacht. So uncharacteristic of who Batman is.

I love how West really got into the swing of Bruce and played him as a respectable yet fun loving guy. 2 thumbs up!

So for the past few weeks I've been traveling out to Dallas again to train new employees for JP Morgan Chase.

It's been a busy couple of weeks but it's finally coming to a close over here and I can finally return to Monroe!

Work's been so busy for me I can't believe we're almost done with this month already! Is it going fast or is it just me?

Other than work, things are going great. I'm looking forward to my Mets packing their bags for a season long stay in the basement of the NL East, I don't care or know who's still in the NFL playoffs and even the upcoming lure of March Madness means nothing to me.

This is the dead time for sports for me. Sure I cheer for my Red Wings, but since they hardly come on TV there's not much else to do but check the scoreboards every night.

Ok folks, lot's of fun coming up these next few weeks on the blog. We'll be doing a few reviews that should be sure top entertain.

I don't understand what the fascination is with Apple products. Megan doesn't care for her iPhone hardly at all and my iPad 2 is 50% useless.

The "almighty" iPad doesn't navigate well on Google+ or Blogger (too of the biggest sites I visit) I virtually have to do everything now thru our Accer netbook (which embarrassingly gets HOURS more use than the iPad)

iPad is only good for checking email and browsing select sites. I have to say select because is doesn't carry "flash" so because of that most sites I visit have to be from the netbook.

My assumption is that Apple products must be the "it" factor right now and that's why everyone wants it.

Oh well, it's Monday. Had to get my grip session on to start the week!

As an Auburn fan it's hard to admit this, but Bama is indeed the BEST team in the SEC this year. They deserve to be #1.

I think this also showed how Saban beat himself in the last game against LSU by making bonehead calls.

But LSU is good. They deserve #2 (won't get it) but next year I see them holding the SEC coaches trophy high.

So here we go. Once again the SEC takes it's rightful place on the BCS Stage and this time we can't lose.

LSU vs Bama will be the best game of the year. It was good the first time around and it'll be good the 2nd time as well.

The Good

Auburn played like I've never seen them before. Not BAD. Moseley cried his way out of the game after his second spine-less possession of the ball giving Trotter the chance to.... wait for it... be a quarterback!?! I was as shocked as the ESPN commentators were. (they just hid it better)

It made me feel like we actually have a chance next season.... we'll see. But with Dyer on the outs with Auburn I'm not really sure what to expect for 2012.

THE BAD

OK State played PATHETIC tonight. They should have lost the game but got lucky when "Super Doofus" Williamson missed a kick that any other kicker could have hit BACKWARDS! But I can't complain too much, thanks to the Cowboys win I killed it in points tonight on ESPN's pick-em's.

THE UGLY

Oregon's "costumes" they brought to the bowl game. Seriously, these guys are the Barbie dolls of college football. They spend more time on looking pretty for a game instead of playing it. Sure they won, but the also got on Joan Rivers "What are they Wearing?" list as well.

New Year's Resolutions

Well folks, now that 2012 is finally upon us I think it's time to count off my resolutions for the year!

1) I will throw one thing a way each day of the year.

That's right! I've discovered this past year that I have accumulated a lot of junk! And so every day I'm going to throw one item away. I already threw away a few things last year but starting yesterday I'm going to start keeping track of it and making my house less junky!

2) Make more YouTube videos.

There's been s surge in subscriptions to my videos and I really don't post that much. (most things I just keep internally posted on the blog) But for all those subscribers I vow to get better at making more videos for them to enjoy.

3) Not hold out hope for the Mets.

Besides last year I think I stated at the beginning of Spring Training that the Mets were going to the World Series. Even last year when I conceded they'd only be shooting for 3rd place my heart still believed them to be a quality team when they had that great start to the season. (which unfortunenantly ended up in disaster) This year I'll just be begging them not to finish last in their division.

4) Write more.

I enjoyed writing that Star Wars fan fiction last year and would really like to try it again some time. I have another story in mind but that might take a while. I also have an idea for a Dinner Theatre I could write instead but I'd really need to flesh it out before I started on it. Either way, I want to do more.

Ok. So there's just a few resolutions I came up with. What's yours?

All in all I'd have to say it's been a good year.

Work's been good and the blog has had it's biggest year yet! With a record number of over 600 posts, I doubt I'll be able to pull anything like this off ever again! Plus traffic on the blog is at an all time high!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

This season...the shows are a little better (which isn't saying much considering last season) but it has been an improvement. Still, this show has gone on 2 seasons too many and is starting to wear thin.

It has Star Wars in the title so of course I'm going to watch it but I won't miss it when they take it off the air that's for sure.

Dexter

By now you should know this is my favorite show. Season 6 didn't disappoint either. This is still one of the best shows out there in my opinion! This season they raised the stakes in the finale this past Sunday and came away with another amazing season!

Walking Dead

If you aren't watching this, you're missing one of the best shows on TV. I thought this show would be enjoyable, but I never imagined it would rival Dexter in being my favorite show?!

Holy Crow! I've read the comics but never thought it would be just as good!! What makes it better is that it doesn't necessarily follow the comic books so everyone episode differs. It's just GOOD.

Survivor Review

Wow.

So this is how it ends. Sophia wins?! Possibly the lamest player in Survivor history (2nd only to Versepia from Survivor: Marquesas)

Face it folks, she was hardly ever shown on camera (obviously was not interesting to the producers) and it's the first time in history I've ever seen Jeff Probst spend only 1 minute on the winner!!

If you saw the live show you know what I mean. He knew Sophia was boring to the viewers as well. She did no strategic moves in the game and played the tole of your basic "coat tail rider" that was it.

But what about next season? 2 tribes, living as one but competing against themselves? Gotta admit, I kinda like it.

But for now I'll have to sit back and wait till February to find out how it goes!

Star Wars vs Star Trek

So if you haven't heard Carrie Fisher and William Shatner have been been "hee-hawing" each other about which sci-fi genre is the best. I'm sure this battle has waged on for years but honestly I've never talked about it much to anyone, but I thought today I could put in my 2 cents.

Of course I love Star Wars the most, but I do enjoy Star Trek as well. If we combined it on paper I actually think it's pretty even...

1) Best TV series. We have Clone Wars which sadly, makes Star Trek Voyager look genius in comparison! (point Trek)

2) Original movies. Star Wars, Empire and Jedi going up against movies like Star Trek 1,3 & 5... hands down Wars gets a point!

3) Newest movies. I loved the new Star Trek film (who didn't) putting it up against the Prequels (or Clone Wars the movie) Trekkies gain another point.

4) Lead Actors. Shatner vs Hamill. I love you Mark but c'mon! It's Shatner we're talking about here!

5) Leading Actress. Carrie Fisher in a metal bikini vs.... I'm sorry where were we? I just lost my train of thought. (point Wars)

We could go on and on, but the point that hits home to me the most is continuity. Star Wars has it. From their books to their comics, the movies and that step above the Holiday Special called Clone Wars, Star Wars has it.

Star Trek continuity? Forget it. They don't even have it in their tv to movie series, not in their books either. It's like someone just kept writing "what if" stories and Trekkies didn't care.

I hate Lucas, but his death grip he has over the story has been impressive. Knowing that some stories get cut and even authors get booted off a project *cough cough Karen Traviss* Lucas has kept the story line pretty linear and complete.

I also love Star Wars because it doesn't deal with Time Travel like Star Trek does. How many times have they tirelessly used the same "go back in time" story line in their books, movie and series? Too many to number.

Star Wars doesn't deal with all that mess and that's what makes it better. Shatner said in a YouTube video to Fisher recently that Star Wars only had special effects but Trek had the story. For the prequels he'd be right, but overall well... I love you Mr Shatner but at least our stories have continuity.

Well, it finally happened. We lost Gus Malzahn.....TO ARKANSAS STATE!?!?

This is the man who could have just about any Head Coach job in the nation and he's going to the Sun Belt? THE SUN BELT!!!

They even reported that he'll be the highest paid Sun Belt coach just beating out Willie Taggart's $40,000 salary by $62 bucks!!

Ok, I kid there, but Arkansas State????

I know he's from the area and I know he's always wanted to go back. Arkansas' fans should be happy because they now know who they will have as their next head coach after Petrino leaves.

Now here's the kicker. That means Gus will actually be in Monroe next year when they play the Warhawks. This will be the equivalent of watching Cam Newton retiring to teach preschooler's how to color.

I'm at a loss for words here. But at least he's happy and NO ONE will criticize his game play ever again!

Well, what can I say...We couldn't keep Reyes, I saw that coming. Expected it even. But now we've traded Angel Pagan for a couple of no names???

It's like they don't even want to hide the fact that the Mets have NO money to spend and won't for a very long time.

I don't hate the Sandy Alderman (the Mets GM) He wasn't the one that got us in this situation in the first place, but it is disheartening to see the Mets taking one step backwards every year.

No doubt about it, the way the Marlins have gotten aggressive this off season has made my realize we will be the last place team in our division next year.

Our minor league are in shambles, we're broke and there's nothing we can do but sit back and watch every other team in major league baseball outplay us like we're a girls softball team.

It's sad.

The agony of defeat

So now that I've had more time to think about what went wrong, I'd like to break down yesterday's game for you in more detail and point out the keys to success and the reasons for defeat at the Santa Bowl this year.

Keys to Success: With all their practicing the youth didn't stand a chance in the first half. The Adult's were clearly in control 12-0. But in the 2nd half everything changed.

The Youth had the run and that's the ONLY thing they had. But they used their speed well and won the game with it, because hey! If it works every time why stop it right? The Youth now have a plan to do the same thing year after year until the Adults show they can stop it.

Reasons for defeat: Albert Einstein defined insanity as "doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result." This was exactly what the Adults did. Defenses in the past 2 years have been able to shut down the run. The Youth aren't stupid. They didn't just figure out the power of running the ball after 11 years! They've never run it successfully. The defense in the past was able to shut it down every year by bringing the secondary in and boxing the the run.

This year for some reason our secondary stayed way out in no man's land to "catch the run" when it came their way. Did it work? Sometimes, after the Youth gained 30 more yards! It was the worst defense we've ever had. They knew the run was coming but made no effort to try and stop it, lining up he same way every play.

The other reason for our demise is the play calling. Our final play ended up being a fake punt (that no one fell for) where are receiver was double covered and even if he'd caught the ball he was a full 10 yards away from the goal line and would have been down ending the game anyway.

I can only wonder what would've happened if we'd kicked the field goal. The Youth had only 5 on the line. Like I said NOBODY bought the fake kick.

But I'm glad the Youth won. They deserved it this year. They played tough and exposed our weaknesses we refused to correct. I believe our failings are linked to one need.

A coach.

Plain and simple that's what we needed. We needed someone who everyone on the team would listen to and follow on the field. Someone who would've told the Adults how to run a defense and what plays to call at critical times.

Finding a coach won't be easy. They'd have to dedicate their time to the team, running plays and analyzing the opponent. It'll also be hard getting someone everyone will listen too. It seems as though we have too many cooks in the kitchen and each one is cooking a recipe for disaster. This has to stop.

We could've won that game. We SHOULD have won that game, but we didn't due to ignorance on the field in offense and defense.

Something we'll have to work on next year....

HUMILIATED IN DEFEAT!

Youth win for the 2nd time ever, 19-18

Adults dominated the 1st half of the game and made it 12-0 at the half. Youth scored in the 3rd and the Adults answered 18-6.

But then darkness covered the field as the Youth decided to run the ball and the Adults terrible defense couldn't figure out a way to stop them. They score with 34 seconds left and the game ends 19-18.

SANTA BOWL 2011

That's right boys and girls! Once again it's time for the annual Santa Bowl, the Youth vs the Adults.

In our decade of dominance I don't see much hope for our Youthful warriors. They've lost all but one of these meetings (and to be honest that one win was a fluke) so I don't see them winning this year either.

The Adults strength comes from the fact that we now have so many folks on our team we have them divided into Offense and Defense, so that way no one tires out and we can come out the Youth 100% fresh every time!

But if I know the Youth they have some "secret" plan of taking us down this year. I don't see that happening but then again it is the Santa Bowl, crazier things have been done.

So what's been new with me? Been a while sine I've done an update so I decided today would be a great opportunity to do one!

I'm done traveling to Dallas (at least for now) No word on how much travel I'll have for next year though. Could be a little, could be a lot, depending on how much they decide to let that department grow, but overall work is great.

What I'm getting ready for now is my HR Certification test. Usually people study 3 to 6 months for these but I only have 1!! So I've been hitting the books pretty hard. I don't know if I'll be able to pass it on the first time but I'm really hoping I do. (these test are expensive) If I don't pass, I'm doubtful if I'll take it again. I guess it all depends how I do. The test isn't for another few weeks but still it nerve-wrecking!

This is why I never miss my old days back at school. Sure we look back on them with fond memories because we tend to forget the headache of test and papers due, but not me! I loathed every study time I had! That's why I'm never going to pine over the "good ole days" when I was in school.

Anyway, besides that, life is good and I have no complaints.
